What inspired you to start No More All Male Lineups and what was the moment you realised it needed to exist?

Early last year a big DnB day party was announced with over 30 DJs in Bristol and only one or two of the DJs were women. We were pretty horrified that such a terrible gender imbalance was still being seen as ok in 2025 and wanted to do something about it.

How do you hope your work influences promoters, festivals, and venues when they're putting together lineups?

We hope it encourages others to look at their lineups and think about whether their lineups are truly diverse and whether they really reflect their audience and the scene.

Not just in terms of gender, but also in terms of ethnicity, sexuality, etc. And we want them to realise that just having a B2B of two women opening is not the same as having a diverse lineup.

Can you share a moment or response that made you feel like your project was making a real impact on the music community?

For many of our residents, playing at one of our events or one our takeovers is often one of their first opportunities to play at a major venue or festival, or even to play out at all.

It's such a wonderful feeling knowing that we have helped platform so many FLINTA DJs who might otherwise not have been offered these sorts of opportunities.

What are some common misconceptions people have about gender representation in music lineups, and how do you challenge them?

A typical response we hear to our message is that they "book DJs based on talent". This is such an insidious idea because they're essentially suggesting that there are no talented non-male DJs in their genre or scene and perpetuates the idea that non-male DJs don't exist or aren't good enough.

Any venues or promoters you want to shout out that are pushing for a more inclusive music scene?

Of course The Crown, and also Trinity Centre, Exchange, 395. We also want to shout out the Love Inn and Cafe Kino for offering their spaces for regular events to allow our DJs to practice, network and mingle in a safe space!

We also want to shout out all the amazing FLINTA-run collectives we've had the pleasure of hosting at our own events - Loopy, Music from the Mothership, Big Sis DJs, Haven, Full Spectrum and more!
