Get To Know: Kenna
Your sets lean into the darker, more high-impact side of DnB - what is it about that sound that keeps pulling you in?
I suppose the cinematic feeling it gives, the dark sound really makes you feel a certain way. I try and make my tunes more than just a drop and I feel the dark setting makes that easier
You’ve been steadily building momentum with releases and bookings - when did things start to feel like they were properly clicking for you?
Probably towards the end of last year/start of this year things started to click into place. It took me a long time to find my sound and get it to a point where I was happy with it. Like everyone else says, you should be making music for yourself, I think people can pick up on the authenticity
Your productions have a raw, weighty feel to them - what’s your starting point when you sit down to make a track?
Normally the drop to be fair. I’ll sometimes have an idea in my head but other times I’ll just make a drum loop and play around on serum until something clicks. I find building elements around the drop comes easier to me, helps me to build that cinematic feeling I was talking about
What can people expect from your set at The Crown for this one?
A heap of dark dubs with maybe another genre or two chucked in there. I have a ridiculous amount of music to test out!
Final one - what’s a tune you’ve been rinsing lately that always does damage?
Not one tune in particular but anything XIII sends me, seriously sick producer, check him out if you haven’t already
