Having grown up on Soul, Motown, UKG and Hip-Hop, how would you say this has influenced your sound?
I love tracks like Sensi by Ricky Force due to their likeness to reggae hosting and toasting, as well as borrowing bass lines from dancehall, both genres that stem back to my upbringing and family background. I like tracks like Get Away by Dwarde because the vocal samples used in each are taken from Soul tracks - vocals that can really make a dancefloor erupt just because the vocal exists - it's human nature.
You've had some big gigs this summer, what's been your favourite set so far?
I enjoyed them all for various reasons, so it's hard to pick a favourite. I loved Boomtown because the street party I played on had a wicked rig - and the crowd was mental! I loved Outlook because I've been wanting to play there ever since I first started DJing - it's truly the Mecca of the underground - plus, I got to rinse out with the Sexy Lady Massive & Motive Hunter crew (and an extra set at Vortex from 8-9:30 AM).
Having picked up support on your releases from the likes of Tim Reaper, DJ Mantra and Martha, what's next in store, release-wise?
So, I've got a 2nd EP coming out on Hooversound Recordings on August 29th. It feels like a statement for my love for jungle, but also of SHERELLE's support for me and my career over that time, too. I've also got a few more singles coming out toward the end of this year on HiFi Jungle. I may put a few more self released singles out as well, but I'm still debating.
It's been a while since you last played in Bristol - what are you most looking forward to with your return to the city this September?
I'm most looking forward to just being in Bristol again - it's such a quaint little city and it's rarely a dull time. It has quite a lot of intimate venues, which are some of my favourite places to play, because the crowd is actually there for the music and is usually up for hearing whatever, which makes it fun for me too.
